Definitions
- Course credit hours include fieldwork, internship, and mentored research hours, but exclude thesis/dissertation hours.
- Total Course Credit Hours include hours taught by allocated full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and graduate students.
- Allocated Faculty Course Credit Hours include hours taught by allocated full-time faculty only. Allocated faculty headcounts include all allocated faculty positions assigned to the academic unit, whether filled or not. Lists of allocated faculty positions assigned to each department in each academic year, and the individual faculty members occupying those positions, may be found in the Department Faculty List dashboard.
- The difference in the ratios between Total Course Credit Hours and Allocated Full-time Faculty Course Credit Hours is a measure of how much a unit relies on adjuncts/graduate students.
- Credit for courses is given to the home department of the allocated faculty member teaching, regardless of the course's subject area. For courses taught by adjuncts/graduate students, credit goes to the offering department.
- Courses with multiple associated lab sections that meet at the same time and in the same location for a lecture but separately for labs are counted only once (e.g., 3.0 credit hours) not the duplicated amount (e.g., 60.0 credit hours).
- When viewing output summarized by academic years, department faculty counts are averaged across all semesters/terms within the specified year (i.e., departments adding positions mid-year will have decimal values in faculty counts). College and university faculty headcounts are calculated by summing departments' individual sums of credit hours and average faculty counts across the year, then dividing by the number of distinct departments within the college/university.
